1001 resumes | 1001 cv's
an archivist research project on hybrid biographies

At the kunstvlaai rhizomatic will start building an archive of hybrid biographies in the form of complete resumes: the collective project 1001 resumes. A conventional cv is written in such a way that it fits with the job to apply for. It doesn't meet with the rules of the job market to mention all details of our lives. We asked creatives who worked with us earlier to send in full resumes focusing on jobs they've done to make money and focusing on exhibitions, artistic projects and crucial events in their lives. Later in the process we realized that hybrid biographies like those of artists often go together with migration and a nomadic live.

We hope the result to be a sort of biographical poetry – an impressive, non-linear multitude of stories. We try to confront the formal and competitive structure of the cv with the intimate character of a diary by making biographical aspects visible that would never be public otherwise - as a form of alternative historiography. In 2013 the archive will be presented in the context of the video project "de sollicitatie opera | the resume opera" that will be performed by professional opera singers in job centres (uitzendbureaus) in Amsterdam-Noord. A project on labor, immaterial labor and the existential situation of artists within their hybrid working realities.

Kunstvlaai: Festival of Independents, 9th edition

23 November - 02 December 2012, Amsterdam
www.kunstvlaai.nl

In november 2012, the 9th edition of Kunstvlaai: Festival of Independents, titled !INexactly THIS" took place in Amsterdam with the contributions of over 70 independent art institutions, art schools and artist-led initiatives presenting live art, exhibitions, film screenings, archival presentations, lectures and workshops.

This edition of the Kunstvlaai positions itself amidst the dynamic characteristics of self-organized art initiatives and project structures. As a rejection of the exacting hyper-production that has yielded repeated collapses of global capitalism, it turns toward the fluctuating working methodologies and imaginative propositions of smaller players in the cultural field. As a temporal platform of ideas, collective experimentation and intuitive organizational approaches the visual identity of INexactly THIS draws inspiration from probability principles and subatomic pathways as seen in the Feynman diagrams, which altered the field of particle physics in the mid 20th century.
